Vintage Paris etching of Rue Saint Rustique in Montmartre with Sacré Coeur in the distance. The etching is signed in pencil by “Clere” and bears the plate marks. The colors are warm and subtle and may have been hand applied. The etching appears to have been reframed, perhaps around the 1970s, under non-glare glass. I was unable to find any information about the artist but estimate the etching dates from the first half of the 20th century. It measures 9″ x 7.25″ and is ready to hang. Overall excellent preowned vintage condition; very minor nicks on the wooden frame and minor water staining along the bottom of the dust cover. Rue Saint Rustique is believed to be the oldest street in Montmartre. Formerly known as Rue Notre-Dame, it was renamed in the 19th century after Saint Rustique who, according to legend, was martyred in the vicinity in the third century along with his companions St. Denis (first bishop of Paris) and St. Éleuthère.
