Very good preowned vintage condition with patina and wear consistent with age; nice weight. These make great Christmas tree ornaments, and the hundreds of different motifs make them suitable for an endless variety of applications. Lovely embellishment on gift packages.

HISTORY (from online sources): Horse brasses have been around since Roman times, when a horse’s harness was embellished with bronze medallions. They became particularly popular in England in the 19th century, slowly declining alongside the disuse of draft horses in the 1940s. Cast brasses are very heavy and in the 1880s animal rights activists campaigned against their use, resulting in the production of much lighter stamped brass ornamentation. The collection of vintage and antique horse brasses is serious business as attested to by The National Horse Brass Society.
