Copyright 2007, with a beautiful green velvet binding, Drawing upon Nature: Studies for the Blaschkasโ Glass Models,” contains reproductions of 59 of the more than 900 drawings of invertebrate animals and plants created by the father and son flameworking team Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka, which are now among the treasures of the Corning Museum of Glass Rakow Research Library.
The book includes two essays. The first, written by David Whitehouse, is a relatively straightforward historical account of the models of invertebrate animals. The section on botanical models, written by Susan M. Rossi-Wilcox, provides a travelogue of Rudolf Blaschkaโs field expeditions to North America in 1892 and 1895.
Following the essays are two collections of drawings, 27 (and three prints) of invertebrates and 30 of botanical specimens.
