Set of two vintage heavy brass camel bells in graduated sizes from North Africa or the Middle East. One set consists of two stacking bells, the larger one featuring embossed designs on two sides: an oasis scene with palm trees and people on one side and an animal (camel?) on the other; it has an S-hook made from heavy-gauge wire for a hanger. The second set consists of four stacking bells with no designs; it has a thin wire for a hanger. The brass is thick and heavy and has a rough unpolished finish. There are no clappers: each individual bell acts as the other’s clapper. They have been in storage since the early 1980s, having come from the estate of a world traveler who lived in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East, North Africa and the Indian Subcontinent. APPROX. DIMENSIONS: 2-bell set: overall length to top of hanging hook: 6.75″ – large bell is 4 5/8″ tall and has a diameter of 3.25″ at its widest point.
4-bell set: overall length to top of wire: 6.75″ – larger bell is 3″ tall and has a diameter of 2 3/8″ at its widest point.
Combined weight before packing is 2.12 lbs.
CONDITION: Very good vintage condition with minor oxidation as shown. The smaller of the two-bell set has a small hole on one side. See photos.
