Charming five-finger vase (history below) made in Portugal by RC & CL for Jay Willfred, a division of Andrea by Sadek. Based on the handwritten notes on the underside, the vase was purchased at the Biltmore House (NC) in 1996–just shy or 30 years ago–for a 30th anniversary. The vase is hand painted in the traditional Portuguese manner with flowers and tendrils in rose and lavender with green and yellow accents. It measures 7″ tall x 8.5″ across; the base measures 3-3/8″ x 2-5/8″. It’s in excellent used vintage condition (some minor residue inside) with no chips or cracks. Beautiful.

HISTORY (from online sources): The finger vase, sometimes erroneously referred to as a “tulipiere,” is also known as a “trumpet vase,” “fan vase,” and “quintal horn” and was all the rage in the 1700s. The number of fingers can vary. It was brought to America from England and its popularity has remained constant over the decades.
