Fabulous antique trumeau-style mirror featuring a portrait print after a 1784 oil painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723 – 1792) depicting Emma, Lady Hamilton (1765 – 1815), 18th-century beauty and infamous mistress of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, as a “Bacchanate” (female follower of Bacchus, god of wine). Lovely soft colors. The mirror, built on a wooden frame, has an ornate gilded gesso design featuring scrolls and florals. The back of the mirror is stamped with the glass company’s name (illegible) and the date 2 Feb 1911. It measures 31″ x 8-3/8″ overall; mirror area is 19.5″ x 5,5″ and print area is 7.75″ x 5.5″. Very good preowned antique condition with some water damage on the print (including a small hole, upper left corner) and several small areas of missing gesso–not noticeable due to the busy design; new dust cover–please see photos. Ready to hang. Great piece for European-inspired interiors with a connection to British history. Perfect size for those hard-to-style narrow walls.
