Vintage mid-century ice bucket or wine chiller with hinged lid and Thermos glass insert. The bottom is marked “EPC [electroplated on copper], Poole Silver Co., Taunton, Mass. 2500” (history below). The insert is marked “A Themos Brand Product.” An arm attached to the handle and lid serves as a swivel to open the lid. When open, the lid remains in the open position. Beautiful classical footed shape, in excellent used vintage condition. There is one tiny dent on one side just below the handle–see photos. It was black with tarnish when found; I’ve polished it but left a bit of the patina on which can be further polished or left as is for character. The ice bucket measures about 12″ tall to the tip of the handle x about 8.25″ across to the tips of the handle x 5.25″ diameter at the base. Weighs over 4-1/2 lbs. Very solid piece. Great addition to the bar cart, home bar, or festive table.

HISTORY (from online sources): The Poole Silver Company was formed in 1892 by George Poole and Edward Roche in Taunton as Poole, Roche & Co., then established as a corporation on May 21, 1895, as an early manufacturer of silver products made with electroplating techniques. In 1900 it operated in a small two-room factory at 106 Whittenton Street, and later moved to 320 Whittenton Street. From 1946 the firm began to produce sterling silver flatware, holloware, and cutlery. In 1971 the company was bought by Towle Silversmiths. The intellectual property currently belongs to Lifetime Brands.
